Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
Our northern states are underwater. Our southern are still in drought. But overall it's quite nice here at the moment, no horrid bush fires like last year. I think today's the anniversary of the big one too. 173 people died in the fires exactly one year ago. Roll out the snow machines gman! Hmm, I wonder if we'll get any medals this year. This was our first ever Winter Olympics gold medal, epic.

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
Now we're just stealing it all from the Interior....and using the machines nonstop for the last month.

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
Truly, it was an excellent idea. "Let's have Vancouver host the winter olympics!" "Yes, because as everyone knows winter sports are totally appropriate in a goddamn rainforest."
Ah well, I'll still watch the curling and hockey matches, at least the ones with team Canada, but still. A prerequisite of the winter olympics should be "Can the host city say with certainty that it will snow more than once during winter?"
I'm not bitter about the massive cost of a celebration of sport when there are homeless in the streets and underfunded hospitals, oh no, I would never be bitter about something like that.

Yes yes VANOC is completely evil and only exists to steal our money. Let's just blame the premier and move on SirKaid. God how I wish we could vote him out of office.
I have no idea why they thought Vancouver was a good idea though.

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
I wouldn't go quite that far, but I do think it was a stupid use of money. /rant
New topic! I recently decided to go back to FFXI. Oh MMOs, you control my soul for a monthly rate. Anyway, since the install disk is a completely vanilla, un-updated version of the game, I now have the joy of sitting through the updating of a game legendary for long update times.
Ten hours. Ten freakin' hours. My God, if I didn't have a bunch of friends in this game, I swear...

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
Here's an e-mail I got a couple minutes ago, that I though was pretty funny and could maybe actually work. The Fix There recently was an article in the St. Petersburg Fl. Times. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on: "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I think this guy nailed it! _____ Dear Mr.. President, Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":
There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations: 1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed. 2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered – Auto Industry fixed. >3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage – Housing Crisis fixed. It can't get any easier than that!!
P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes... Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto! If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know. If not, please disregard.
Would you vote yes or no for this plan? Discuss. I command it. MrRigger

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
Interesting idea. Rather amusing. Until you realize that the plan would take tens of trillions of dollars and remove a significant portion of the educated and experienced workforce. Including probably a majority of the management positions. Not to mention a majority of the positions in education related jobs. My university would be out of teachers...
Something similar to that could have potential, though. Instead of throwing cash at the money grubbing companies in the hopes that they fix themselves, throw it at the hard working citizens...

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
Well, they don't necessarily have to take it. It's just that if they take it, they must follow the stipulations. Also, I'm missing where you're getting the 'tens of trillions' from. The figure quoted is 40 million workers over 50, and at one million apiece, that's 40,000,000 dollars, unless my math is off.
And I never said the plan was perfect, just that it was interesting.

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
40,000,000 * $1,000,000 = $40,000,000,000,000 (that's a lot of zeroes)
40 trillion dollars
Assuming only half of the people applicable take the million dollars, that's still more than the current national debt. And you know there would be a huge overhead cost for any sort of plan like that.
I completely agree that it is interesting, and something along these lines would almost certainly have been better than the obscene bailouts. Congress would probably take years to actually decide on the details for anything like this, though, if any of those corrupt politicians would even consider it in the first place.

Boo, pseudo-if-not-actually Politics!
Unrelated note, I must add "listening to Hot Blooded Nana Mizuki songs while reading the "Cool Planes" Trope Page" to my list of things I'm not allowed to do together...

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
Random Calinero-related news of the day: I have rediscovered One Piece. This will occupy me for quite some time, as I am about 100 episodes behind. Also, finished editing a novel of mine today to submit it to a contest, only to discover the category I wanted to enter it in (General Fiction) was full. Entered it in Young Adult fiction instead, because it might qualify and I figured it couldn't hurt.
On the pseudo-politics topic, I have my doubts as to whether that idea would work. Also, I know lots of 50 year olds who wouldn't want to retire. However, one premise is sound--you can't keep rewarding companies that seem so determined to screw everything up. It simply does not make sense that these CEO's should continue making millions while their companies and the economy burn to the ground around them. </rant>
Anyone else think the Super Bowl commercials were lackluster this year?

It's nice seeing Americans having problems. Means they're too busy to cause problems elsewhere.

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
..........I have nothing to say to that.
On a different note why is it that I can't get rid of my writers block?

Because you have not properly tempted your muse, nor made the appropriate sacrifices. It is currently using its muse-hammer to beat you about the head, rather than crushing the block for you.

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
No my muse is going just find but not where I want it! It's supposed to be helping with my rewrite. Instead it wants to figure out what would happen if Harry was like Shirou from Fate/Stay Night. Useless at anything except conjuration.

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
Hermione: "Harry! I'm here to help you get the stone!" Harry/Shirou: "Go away Hermione! This is men's business!" Hermione: "But!" Harry: "Go make me a sammich woman!"
serbii does not like Shirou >_>

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
MEK has noted serbii's hate of Shirou and will take it under consideration for review.
It's been quite today....

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
MEK and serbii have already had this conversation via PM, MEK is well versed in serbii's dislike of Shirou. In unrelated news Naraku no Hana (one of the Higurashi openings) is an awesome song.

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
Umm no links but a random question for the HP verse.
In HP-verse you can make magic oaths that for all intents and purposes are unbreakable right? So why not require everyone to swear one when having a trial? Or going farther require an oath of allegiance and good government from the Minister?
Just wondering.

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
There's probably a reason, like not wanting everybody who lies to be put to death. Not even sure if there are other "Unbreakable" things in the HP verse beyond fanon. But I'm hardly one who can say definitively.
Also, my imagination keeps wanting to play the Crisis Crossover game. D:

Re: Random thoughts (and mindless babble)
So I chatting manga fox in the Pokemon Special section of the forum, now my Japanese is horrid but the rest of the board appears to be worse O_o when I'm the best they've got they're in heaps of trouble, anyway, for people who actually have a decent grasp of the language do you want to have a quick look and tell me what it actually says? Super big style/type/model new party/group judge! Pocket monsters special Heart Gold.Soul Silver chapter The newest chapter's Big/important person spirit/mood problem/question is the best! [The newest chapter's main character's problems are the best!] And the group position/status/disaster* start! [And the group's problems start!] Kekitou** Pokemon Story Calling you too to be passionate!!*** [Get excited about it!] *Chii can mean natural disaster / calamity / (social) position / status I’ve got no Kanji to go on **I can’t find the either of these kanji in the dictionary ***this whole sentence is just blah, kanji I can't find, katakana that doesn't sound like anything >_> Chapter starts on the 25th of March Gold’s (I think) saying まったく [yo is for emphesis, Mattaku yo o] まったく = really / truly / entirely / completely / wholly / perfectly / indeed I can't translate the second one because looking up Kanji takes for-freaking-ever without the reading and it'd be from a chinese dictionary rather than a jap one. I did warn them to take everything I write with a truckload of salt.
